My husband and I have some slight differences in the way that we view camping. Previous to getting married, I was the gal who camped in the rain on deserted forestry roads out in the woods, and canoed into free rec sites only accessible by river (with no outhouses, thank you very much).

He, on the other hand, prefers camping a la Holiday Inn, or at the very least, a hostel. He can’t fathom what I see in camping, dislikes the set up and take down, and wonders why we didn’t just stay home, let the kids sleep in sleeping bags, and roast hotdogs on the bbq.

I’ve been a long-time fan and friend of Katie, from Kitchen Stewardship, and was so happy to see her put out this amazing ebook– Kitchen Stewardship in the Big Woods: Family Camping Handbook with Real Food Options! Perhaps now I can find ways to make camping easier, more family-friendly, and more enjoyable for my darling hubby’s sake!

More Than Just a Recipe Book…

When I first heard about the book that she was writing, I thought the focus was going to be solely on how to cook real, whole foods even while camping.

This book is definitely about that. But it is also SO much more than that.

Katie has actually put together a very comprehensive, thorough and helpful guide for moms and dads who want to get out into nature with their kids and enjoy the frugality and simplicity that camping offers, but without the general frustration and challenges that camping can present.

What The eBook Includes:

  • Tips for simple camping cooking and campfire management
  • Suggestions and even helpful lists for packing and preparing
  • Creature comfort help: bugs, weather, personal care in the woods
  • Fun ideas and activities for kids of all ages
  • More than 20 real food recipes, with camping in mind
  • Printable lists for groceries, packing, preparation checklists, etc.

We love to camp! We did our first camping trip at the beach in May and that was wonderful! We love to hike and play in the creek. The hardest part about camping is keeping your area clean and trying to eat healthy. It is so easy to just buy “toaster treats” or cinnamon buns to eat for breakfast and hot dogs are also another easy food for dinner.

My daughter wants to camp and we bought a small tent. But I have no idea where to start as my family never camped!

My husband really wants us to go camping, but the idea is just unbelievably overwhelming to me. We have 5 children ages, 8, 6, 4, 2, and 10 months. I didn’t go camping growing up and am really just not sure how it’s done. I would love to have this book.

    Thanks

I’m camping next weekend, our tradition every year. Today I found out I’m in charge of bringing all the food for the 5+ friends we’ve invited in addition to my own fam of 6! help!!

I grew up camping in a pop-up and really want to get back into it. I’m a little intimidated by doing so with 2 kids under five and only a tent. But I’m committed to trying! I don’t want to sacrifice eating good (vegetarian) food on our trips and would love to get some pointers both on cooking and general campsite management. Or I could just take my mom with me. She managed with five children!

I love the slower pace of camping. And there is always sticks to dig with and bugs to find for my curious children!

Though I have to admit – our last vacation was in a very nice beach house – and it felt real good to be pampered!

My biggest struggle is always the bugs. Everything else is easy peasy, but I just can’t shake my ant phobia!
