I love nothing better than a cold, frothy drink on a hot summer afternoon.
Unfortunately, most store-bought drinks are made with questionable ingredients, too much sugar, and are just plain old expensive.
So I make my own. And they are oh-so-good!
Here are a few of my favorites this summer:
Carob Delight (I also make this chocolatey-banana smoothie using cacao or cocoa powder, and sometimes with raw milk instead of the seed milk base)

One of the easiest frugal drinks I make is “fruity water.” Just toss some sliced up fruit into a pitcher of water. As it sits, the flavors are absorbed by the water and add a nice fresh taste. I like to add strawberries and kiwi. Lemon is also an old stand-by.

I like to make kefir ginger ale.
2T whole sugar (eg. jaggery)
1.5c filtered water
3T water kefir grains
1 lemon sliced in half
1T grated ginger
Chuck it all in a jar for 24-48 hours, then strain, refrigerate and serve. Delicious!
My children just made some Ginger Beer, can’t wait to try it. It takes about 10 days to make. Maybe we’ll try it tomorrow… if they let me. They will post about it soon.
I love cold ginger tea with lemon. Very easy to make, let sliced ginger pieces simmer in simmering water for about 20 minutes. Once its cool, place in refrigerator. Add lemon to your glass of ginger tea.

@CarmenV, Ginger seems to be the theme with other’s summer drink ideas! Now I want to make some…
I have also been making simple iced herb teas, with just a touch of lemon juice and stevia, and they are so good and refreshing!
