Last year I began a series called Preserving Summer’s Bounty over at Keeper of the Home (my other blog). Preserving fresh fruit and vegetables each summer is one of the ways that we keep our budget low while eating plenty of real and organic food!

Since summer harvest is now in full swing, here are the links to the tutorials I posted last summer:

Canning Pears

Freezing Spinach and Dehydrating Tomatoes

Freezing Garlic

Drying and Grinding Herbs

Blanching and Freezing Vegetables

Beautiful Blueberries

Pickle Recipes: Dill and Bread & Butter

This summer I intend to add more to these tutorials. I have a tomato canning post planned, as well as more on summer fruit (probably making and canning applesauce, peaches, etc.).

It’s time for me to get serious about preserving now that July has hit. I’ve been so preoccupied with moving, but I’ve got peas coming out my ears, garlic ready to harvest in another week, local blueberries and raspberries to go pick and freeze, etc. Busy, busy, busy– but I love it!

Have you posted any preserving tutorials on you site? Please contact me because I would love to share them on Saving Naturally!

Have you started preserving yet this summer? What are your plans?

Yes! I found organic strawberries at a local Aldi on sale for 99¢ a container. I bought tons. I just took the tops off, washed them and froze them on cookie sheets until solid, and then tossed them into some Ziploc bags. Now we will have strawberries for quite a while.

I canned salsa, spaghetti sauce and peach preserves so far, we will see what else I end up with :) . I don’t have a garden so its just kinda what I find for a great price! (this was my first year of canning at all!)
