Everyday Minerals offers free sample packs of blush, foundation or face powder. Choose from their TRY ME FREE section.
Choose any 1 sample pack and $5.00 will be removed at checkout, making the sample free.
Shipping still applies, but it is only $3.00 to Canada or $2.64 to the USA.
A great way to build up your collection is by grabbing eyeshadow samples for $2.50. The sample size looks small, but it actually lasts for quite a long time, especially if you don’t wear makeup too heavily (which I don’t).
I do buy larger sizes of foundation now that I know which ones look good on me, but I always add one pack of free samples to my order to try out new things (and get creative- certain blush colors work well as eye shadow, for example), plus one or two samples sizes of something else. You can choose one free sample pack every time you make a new order.
I am able to keep myself well stocked with natural, non-toxic and beautiful makeup (aside from lip products) for maybe $20-30 per year, and I have a large selection of eye shadow colors to choose from.

What a great idea to buy the eye shadow samples – I personally like smaller sizes as I know I can use them up before they get too old. Thanks for the tip!

I love your new site. It looks great!! I have yet to try this makeup, but I want to give it a try now. Which type do you use – foundation or powder? I know that I need the palest one, but other than that – I wasn’t sure where to start. Thanks!
Thanks, Rene! I use the foundation, but I ordered a sample of the powders this month (haven’t tried them yet).
Really glad you have an entire site dedicated to saving. I’m am a new learner and am currently ‘baby stepping’ my way through your book- “healthy homemaking’. Excited for the journey.

Any tips on how to get started with this make-up? I would love to try it, but I feel lost even trying to chose the colors and brushes, etc. How did you know what to purchase at first?
@Leah, The first thing I did was order one of their free samples of foundation colors, just trying my best to choose colors that seemed similar to other foundation colors I have worn before. It helped me to look at their LookBook (http://www.everydayminerals.com/about/look-book) to get an idea of which models had similar skin tones to me and what they used.
The only brush I have is their Everyday Eye Shadow Brush. I have some of their old sponge applicators, which they don’t seem to sell anymore, that I use for foundation.
